Impact Law Forum, co-founded in 2012 by Natalia Thurston of Social Venture Law and Zoe Hunton, is a practice group designed to support the growing community of attorneys advising social enterprises, nonprofits, and sustainable businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area. Impact Law Forum (ILF) hosts regular events at locations throughout the Bay Area. ILF provides a unique opportunity for social sector attorneys to connect, share resources and networks, offer guidance, ask questions, and discuss relevant legal issues, legislation, public policy, and case law.

October 13, 2016 - Nonprofit law roundtable on: (i) impact investing by nonprofits and recently issued IRS guidance, presented by Zoe Hunton; (ii) fundraising registration updates in California and out of state, presented by Cameron Holland. June 7, 2016 - Nonprofit law roundtable discussion led by attorneys Cameron Holland, Zoe Hunton, and Natalia Thurston, covering recent updates in the field of nonprofit and exempt organizations law, including IRS Form 1023-EZ, fiscal sponsorship, hybrid structures, and California's new laws and regulations affecting nonprofits. May 27, 2015 - Stanford Law School and Impact Law Forum presented 'Starting & Scaling Social Enterprises', a panel presentation featuring social sector lawyers Neetal Parekh, Natalia Thurston, and Zoe Hunton. Presentation topics included definitions of social enterprise, structure and funding considerations, and a case study of Etsy’s recent IPO illustrating the unique challenges that arise from the growth and scaling of a B-Corp. For further information, visit Stanford Law School's website. March 18, 2015 - ILF's Spring Mini-Golf Mixer was held at Social Venture Law client Urban Putt, 1096 South Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco. We mingled over drinks then played rounds of mini-golf and ended the evening with dinner at the restaurant.

January 22, 2015 - ILF kicked off the new year with an event in Oakland, featuring speakers Sushil Jacob (Director of the Green-Collar Communities Clinic (GC3) and Staff Attorney at the East Bay Community Law Center) and Ricardo Nunez (Director of Legal Services and Cooperatives Program Director at the Sustainable Economies Law Center), who discussed how cooperative businesses are shaping the landscape of the new economy and what legal practitioners need to know to support the growth of these revolutionary business models for social impact.

December 10, 2013 - Holiday Mixer hosted by Social Venture Law in Oakland, celebrating ILF's one-year anniversary of building a community of practice for legal professionals in social enterprise. We had a terrific turnout! Thank you to all who came!
